You Don’t need to sacrifice taste for healthier eating
Low calorie and dairy free treats that taste as good as they look
In my last blog I said that you don’t have to miss out on cake when trying to lose weight and I firmly believe that a little bit of what you fancy does you good
If you missed it you can read it here Eating Cake Can Aid Weight Loss
However its also true that sometimes you do want a healthier treat but often when we remove the ‘naughties’ from our snacks we also remove the taste.
But that doesn’t have to be the case.
When I discovered that my daughter was lactose intolerant I knew I had to devise some tasty recipes so that she could still enjoy her favourite treats and I combined this with reducing the fat and sugar content for a lower calorie snack and today I’m sharing it with you.
Fruity Flapjacks
Ingredients
100g Pure dairy free spread
250g porridge oats
1 sweet apple (peeled, cored and grated)
4 tbsp Golden syrup
100g of your favourite dried fruit (I used mango, papaya & raisins)
½ tsp mixed spice
1 egg – beaten
Method
Preheat your oven to gas mark 4/180c/fan 160c. Grease and line an 8” square tin
In a large saucepan melt the Pure spread, once melted remove from the heat then add the oats, syrup and grated apple. Stir in the dried fruit and the mixed spice.
Finally stir in the egg until everything is combined
Spread the mixture into the prepared tin then bake for 15 mins
Leave in the tin to cool completely – around 30 mins, then remove and cut into squares
Enjoy with a well-deserved cuppa while you read my other Blogs
